ACE CORE Program 2024
The Academic Curriculum Enrichment (ACE) CORE Program is open to students who wish to extend their learning beyond the scope of mainstream classes at Melrose High School. Participation in this program will provide opportunity for students to apply their learning in greater depth and demonstrate a deep level of proficiency in their learning in their curriculum year level. Students must note that this is a rigorous academic program; it is expected that ACE students are adhering to the following expectations:
- Regular and routine study patterns
- Attendance greater than 90% (with the exception of unexplained absences)
- Grades ‘above standard’ across all core classes
- Completion and submission of tasks and assessments by the due date
- Participation in external assessments for example: ICAS assessments
- Participation in external enrichment activities, for example excursions.
Students that do not maintain high academic performance and/or do not meet the expected behaviours will undergo a review of their placement. This may result in students getting moved to a mainstream class for that subject(s).
Students will be expected to work through content and curriculum at an accelerated rate and will have an opportunity to undertake project-based learning to enrich their learning. Students will also be offered a range of enrichment activities, these may include:
- ICAS Assessments
- Canberra Math Challenge
- Australian Mathematics Competition
- Maths Olympiad
- Science Mentors
- Science Guest Speakers
- Excursions to a variety of places – ANU Physics, Geoscience, AIS,
- Women in Science Lectures
- Tournament of the Minds
- Australian History Competition
- Debating
- Engineering challenge
Upon successful enrolment in the ACE CORE Program, students will not be required to complete further applications for core classes and will maintain their place. A wait list will be created where classes are at capacity.
Students wishing to enrol in ACE elective subjects will complete the specific elective enrolment as per normal. ACE core application will be released to year 7 students during term 4.
If your child is in year 8 or 9, not currently in ACE core classes and is interested in joining please direct them to Mr Lloyd the ACE Coordinator.
