Melrose High School believes in a multi-level approach to IT hardware and software resources which not only prepares students for future technological environments but also significantly improves the quality of education by making learning more engaging and accessible for all.
In recent years, the IT infrastructure at Melrose High School has undergone significant transformations to accommodate the evolving demands of education technology and digital learning.
Providing a well-designed IT infrastructure is pivotal for enhancing the educational experience for students and teachers alike. As such Melrose High School provides comprehensive Wi-Fi coverage that extends across the entire campus, including outdoor areas like playing fields and open-air learning spaces, to facilitate learning without physical constraints.
Internet connectivity is supplied by dedicated fibre optic links that provide both the capacity and speed to handle thousands of simultaneous connections without degradation in performance. This robust connectivity supports the extensive use of online resources, virtual classrooms, and the increasing trend towards cloud-based applications and storage.
Melrose High School supplies every eligible student with a Chromebook laptop, but we also have high-end computer labs which are used for advanced classes such as computer science, graphic design, and digital media studies. These computer labs are equipped with the latest model Windows PC’s featuring high-speed processors, substantial RAM, and superior graphics cards to handle software requirements for 3D design, advanced programming languages, video editing, and other processor-intensive applications. These systems run on a network that allows for both individual work and collaborative projects, enabling students to work efficiently and access shared resources smoothly.
Student data security and privacy is of the utmost importance, so we implement stringent IT security measures which are used to protect sensitive information and maintain network integrity against potential cyber threats. This includes firewalls, intrusion detection systems, website content filtering and regular cybersecurity audits.
In order to use the IT resources at Melrose High School, students are required to agree to an Acceptable Use of IT Resources Guidelines during the enrolment process which outlines their expected behaviour when using our resources. In addition, parents are required to approve Third Party resources for their children in cases where third party software is used by the School to support the education of our students. Melrose High School implements an online digital form for Third Party Permissions which is sent to parents via email.
